Course Strategy – By Neil Thirkell
Most club golfers play the game of golf from tee to green, meaning they hit it as hard and as far as they can then try to deal with the shot they have left themselves. A lot of the time it’s a half shot or a shot between clubs.
The pros however hit shots to leave themselves a comfortable yardage like 110 yards that they are comfortable playing and have a club that hits that distance, playing the course from green to tee.
If you have a bad hole that gets the better of you repeatedly, why not change strategy, for example the 4th or 13th here at Pachesham.
The hole measures 290 yards, most try and whack a driver as far as they can in an attempt to leave a wedge to the green, only to find they hit the ball in the trees or the pond on the right hand side of the hole. If you are not capable of that why not try hitting a club you can comfortably hit 100yds, hit it 3 times to the green two putts and walk away smiling!!!
